8 Ways to De-Stress During The Quarantine

Posted by Ashley Rene on

Coronavirus has inundated our lives. Everyone is affected in one manner or another. We know that as the pandemic unfolds, certain health precautions promote safety. Self-distancing, self-isolation, shelter-in-place, and quarantine measures are proven to contain the spread of COVID-19. But, the stress of containment can be exhausting. Humans are naturally social beings. This emergency lifestyle contradicts our innate psychology.

At KADOO, we are a couple weeks into self-isolation in New York City. The struggle is real. Our lives have been dramatically uprooted. We place great importance in maintaining health and happiness. So we wanted to share some ideas for how to weather the storm.

8 Ways to De-Stress During the Quarantine

  • Meditate
  • Stress is the number one issue affecting all of us. Isolation can be mentally taxing for those used to active lifestyles. Even if it is just 5 minutes a day, meditation is a tool to help you find peace in your surroundings. Try the Calm app to reduce anxiety and sleep soundly.

  • Stay Active
  • Time to restart that diet from January. Just because we are confined to four walls does not mean exercise is out of the question. Yoga is always a go-to since all it requires is a mat and some breathing room. If you need something to really pump the blood, support your local gym. Many are setting up at home streaming sessions. • Pick Up A Hobby
  • Bust out that art set from Christmas. Learn a new language. Start gardening with seeds from your produce. Take up bullet journaling. Here is a good resource to jumpstart your left side brain.

  • Have Fun with the Kids
  • As tempting as it is to let the kids run wild while you are working, avoid that. Try having “Mommy/Daddy and Me” at work time. Set them up with activities like online learning, workbooks, reading or writing in tandem with your work schedule. Outside of work/school time, have fun! Set up home scavenger hunts, or pretend adventures, like building a makeshift backyard zoo. Check these links for more fun stuff to do: Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems.

  • Home Projects
  • Have any areas that need attention in your home? Now is the best time to tackle spring cleaning. Your basement never got so much love. DIY projects can really gain traction provided you have all the materials. Consider ordering supplies from local businesses if you don’t.

  • Read
  • Take a break from Netflix binge watching. Books are a good way to escape. No need to leave the house to get new books. They can come directly to your phone or IPAD via the Kindle or Libby apps. In fact you can make it a social endeavor. Propose phone or online book clubs.

  • Virtual Social Gatherings
  • We are living in a time with technology and social media. Let's make the best of it. Have virtual happy hour via Zoom meet-ups. Check in on your family and friends through Facetime.

  • Home Cooked Meals
  • Use this quarantine period to practice your home cooking skills. Try new recipes! Commit to having a proper meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner, or prep ahead of time for a weekly meal. This will help you stick to the fitness goals mentioned above. Pick up healthy ingredients that are beneficial and will boost your immune system.

Stay safe, healthy and be kind to yourself.
